Making Bag Template (part 1)

My goal for this summer was to practise my sewing skills and to create things that are useful. I decided to make a prototype backpack, to see if I could patterncut a bag from scratch and whether it would assemble correctly. I have scrap material left over from a previous project that I didn't used due to it being heavy weighted. Ultimately this reason could also affect this prototype make but didn't have much else to work with.

I used similar measurements to the Fjallraven 'Kanken' backpack and took inspiration from it to design a 4sided backpack with a 2 panelled flap. I did extend the height of the bag once drawn only because of it looking smaller than thought in my head. It consisted of 7panels in the end with just a Icm seam allowance around most edges including hems. Then it was cut out of this waterproof navy duck canvas.
