100 years of De Stijl-
This art movement was established by Dutch abstract artists thats focus was upon strict geometry (of mainly vertical and horizontal). The most known of this group would have been Mondrian (as seen in the top left image). 2017 marks 100 years since this group was founded and how this artwork has influenced all art and design aspects. Its key look when I went was at Chris Beekman (artwork seen in picture to the top right), a forgotten defector of the group due to political differences. He showed the labourious side to the Netherlands focusing on figures/workers, the poor side of this decade. Beekman was accused of trying to politicalise the movement due to his views on reinstating communications with Russian Artists, which caused him to leave the group. This artist draw similarities to an other artist I love, Malevich (see in the picture below left), who created Suprematism to then revert back to realism.

This exhibition was to look at the success of this movement through the key aspect used, such as shapes and primary colour use and how it has influenced many other artists and designers (Roy Litchensutein- picture to the bottom right). His use of primary colours within all his work could be linked back to the De Stijl Art movement but also to the ideas of Pop art reflecting the mundane life.
