In the seminar today, I learnt about range planning, as I am creating a brand in this module of the course. A range plan is an overview of your collection with all of the design and financial parameters set out. The plan outlines the specifics of your collection; from how many styles you will have, to what fabrics and colourways will be used. It is used before you dive into large scale production. This is incredibly useful for you to follow as a designer but most importantly it gives the manufacturers, and brand a clear understanding of your vision.
The timing of when garments will be released into the store is fascinating as Spring/Summer starts in December whereas Autumn/Winter starts around July, but clearly works with the customers. I've learnt that whats most important are Colour, Fabric choice and Theme really help influence a range, which will make the collection desirable as it links well. Another good idea is to create a more affordable pack within the range so it opens it up to more people, expanding the brand to new customers.
