My concept to this project is the idea of creating exoskeletons for hikers, so they have weather resistance and ventilation in their clothing but hopefully without losing the aesthetic.
I wanted to design 4 outfits for the capsule collection that represent me as a designer but still keep some elements of what North Face is. I looked into my usual aesthetic of design, which is very minimal, scandi, clean line, but have more functionality, so it is legitimate and works for hiking. The 4 outfit will represent different types of bug; fly, grasshopper, woodlouse and beetle, which all have interesting shapes/silhouettes and would introduce interesting paneling. In addition, I still want to keep the hiking style/feel with cargo pants, pockets, etc, as they are functional aspects to it.
I believe that this process for me hasn't been successful, as I thought it would be. I've missed something in the process, maybe needed more research into customer or to the concept to get an overall look, but I know something is missing. There's aspects of the collection I know I would like to change, such as the pinafore or just development more of certain garments, and I will give myself the opportunity to do so, by doing my make sooner than later as I have design the garment I would like to make.
Overall, I know this will be a section I will have to revisit, as I feel I haven't fully resolved my research into my customer and concept like I wish I had. In addition, I feel that my design can be stronger so to give myself more time later will be useful to reflect on the making of a garment and see what has been successful with that, etc. With this in mind, I do have the final piece I would like to create which is the grasshopper jacket, which is very functional for me and would suit the needs of a hiker.
