Sample: Pocket

I wanted to introduce a pocket into the skirt part of the tennis dress, but thought it be best to sample it first to see if it was possible. I cut away 4cm from the main skirt pattern and created a pocket (14cmx21cm, which roughly holds a phone as seen in the picture below) to match the diagonal line. Then traced the original skirt pattern to get the back of the pocket and what will be visible on the front. It's similar to a jean pocket and all overlocked. I felt that it was very easy to construct and will be beneficial for the piece.
On the diagonal line I could cover seam to make it neater and more secure. In addition, around the edge of the pocket could be binded just to make it a bit more secure, but it will be tested first before making this decision.
I will try this on the next toile I do to see what the weight of the items do to the fabric, if the position is right and if the pocket is big enough to hold stuff in (like phone, iPod, keys, etc.)
